Learner Code of Conduct
Our courses train people for roles that carry public trust. We expect the same standards in the classroom that the SIA and employers expect on the job.
1. Learners will
- Arrive on time, attend every session and take part fully.
- Treat staff and other learners with courtesy and respect. Discrimination, harassment, bullying and intimidation are not tolerated in any form.
- Follow the tutor’s instructions, especially safety instructions during physical intervention and first aid practicals.
- Keep phones on silent and away during sessions, and out of the examination room.
- Complete all assessments honestly and without assistance.
- Respect the premises and equipment and report damage.
2. Learners will not
- Attend under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or bring them onto the premises.
- Behave in a threatening, abusive, aggressive or disruptive way.
- Use force in physical intervention training beyond what the tutor has instructed.
- Record sessions or other learners without permission.
- Smoke or vape anywhere other than the designated outside area.
3. Consequences
- Minor breaches are dealt with by a verbal warning from the tutor.
- Serious or repeated breaches result in removal from the course. The Director confirms any removal. Fees are not refunded.
- Behaviour that may amount to a criminal offence is reported to the police. Serious misconduct on an SIA course may also be reported to the SIA, which considers conduct in licensing decisions.
- A learner may challenge a removal through the Complaints Policy within 10 working days.
