1. Statement

Trident Training Centre Ltd will provide a safe and healthy environment for learners, staff and visitors, comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations, and assess and control the risks specific to our training — in particular physical intervention, first aid practicals and the use of electrical equipment.

2. Arrangements

• Risk assessments are in place for the premises, physical intervention training, first aid practical sessions and the CCTV training area, and are reviewed annually and after any incident.
• Physical intervention is delivered on suitable matting by tutors holding the Highfield Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers, at a ratio of no more than 12 learners per tutor. Learners complete a health declaration before taking part and may withdraw from any technique at any time.
• A qualified first aider and a first aid kit are on site whenever training is running. Accidents and near-misses are recorded and reported under RIDDOR where required.
• Fire procedures and assembly points are explained on day one. Fire exits are kept clear; alarms are tested and drills carried out at intervals.
• Electrical equipment is inspected and tested. Manikins and training equipment are cleaned between courses.
• Learners who are unwell with an infectious illness should not attend and should contact us — Policy 1 applies to the fee, but we will consider special consideration or transfer where evidence is provided.

3. Responsibilities

• The Director is responsible for this policy, for risk assessments and for providing the resources needed.
• Tutors are responsible for the safe conduct of their sessions, safety briefings, supervision of practical work and reporting incidents.
• Learners are responsible for following instructions, using equipment as directed, reporting hazards and injuries immediately, and disclosing any condition that affects their ability to take part safely.
