Malpractice & Maladministration

1. Definitions

  • Malpractice is deliberate action that compromises the integrity of a qualification. Examples: impersonation; cheating in an examination; collusion; plagiarism; altering or forging documents, certificates or ID; false claims of eligibility or prior learning; a member of staff assisting a learner improperly, altering results or failing to follow assessment requirements; breaching examination security.
  • Maladministration is failure to follow required procedures, without intent. Examples: incorrect learner registration details; late registrations; incomplete invigilation records; failing to retain required evidence.

2. Reporting

  • Anyone — learner, staff, employer or third party — may report suspected malpractice or maladministration to the Director at info@tridenttrainingcentre.co.uk or in writing. Reports may be made anonymously. Staff who report concerns in good faith are protected from any detriment.
  • Where the concern involves the Director, it should be reported directly to Highfield Qualifications.

3. Investigation

  • We notify Highfield immediately of any suspected malpractice, and of any maladministration that could affect the validity of results, and follow Highfield’s investigation requirements.
  • The investigation is led by someone not involved in the matter. Those under investigation are told the allegation, may respond and may be accompanied at any meeting.
  • Evidence — including examination papers, recordings, registration records and statements — is secured immediately.

4. Outcomes

  • Learners: results may be withheld or withdrawn, certificates may be cancelled by Highfield, and the learner may be barred from further courses. Malpractice on an SIA course may be reported to the SIA.
  • Staff: disciplinary action up to dismissal and, where relevant, referral to Highfield and the SIA.
  • Procedural failings are corrected and the corrective action recorded. Learners may appeal a malpractice finding under Policy 6.
